ALERT: DOE CONFIRMS OUR REPORT! WIPP Plutonium Release Initially Unfiltered & HEPA System Was MANUALLY Started, Resulting In Human Contamination

While DOE, WIPP, and CERMC were reporting otherwise, the POTRBLOG team  was reporting that the HEPA filtration system at the WIPP facility had to be manually activated after the Plutonium explosion causing a massive unfiltered release to the environment and contamination of the workers who had to go outside and manually activate WIPP's  HEPA system.

We based our analysis on the mathematical data released and insider information from the WIPP plant. FINALLY  MONTHS LATER, a DOE investigator presenting WIPP's accident investigation report CONFIRMED OUR REPORT.

Short to say; our opinion is that those officials who were reassuring the public that the HEPA system activated automatically and rapidly, while knowing otherwise should face jail time. Moreover our opinion is that those who may claim not to have known but should have known from the math / data, that those persons should never be allowed to operate in any matter involving public safety ever again.

UPDATE: So the North Koreans had motive and opportunity, but it was the Chechens. And now the war drums from North Korea seem to have gone silent. So have the North Koreans changed, or is it a change in what the Media presents?




No one mentions North Korea in relation to the Boston Marathon Bombing, even though they made a direct threat on the day of the bombing-

"Our retaliatory action will start without any notice from now," North Korea's state news agency KCNA said on Monday, noting actions would "start immediately."

Consider that North Korea had their own international Pyongyang Marathon the day before the Boston Marathon. The North Korean's are celebrating one of their faux high holy days- The Day Of The Sun- the birthday of their founding father Kim IL Sung on April 15th. One of their most important days of their year.

Its obvious that the North Korean's have the motive; but do they have the opportunity?
Well it just so happens that the only "China Town" in New England is in Boston and it is less than one mile away from the finish line. So unfortunately for the good people of China Town, it might make the place for an inconspicuous North Korean agent to try and meld in.

With all of these obvious connections, one would think that the Boston Marathon would have had greater vigilance; may be they have their focus in the wrong direction. It would seem as if they are still hunting to pin this bombing on Richard Jewell (the hero of the Atlanta Olympic bombing)

One key final aspect that puts this situation in the corner of a skilled special forces infiltrator is that the improvised explosive device apparently was made with local materials, but yet had sophistication in both in timing and directionality. Note that it was a low order explosive; that the blast was directional and aimed low (few windows were broken, and little shrapnel when vertical).

So does this guarantee that the North Korean's are responsible, NO; but it does mean that the authorities in Boston should have been actively considering the threat given how obvious the potential was. It is also telling that given the obvious threat potential that no one else is even mentioning the North Korean's as being the actor; maybe the payback is just to risky?

BTW, where was the missile launch that was expected on The Day Of The Sun? Maybe they had other things in mind?

Brunswick Nuclear Sabotage Again? North Carolina Be Alert!

Once again another strange "Event" reported by the NRC at the  Brunswick North Carolina nuclear plant.
But before we get into the details of the event report, first lets deal with a simple question.

What would happen if all of a sudden the Forth Knox gold depository had a on site failure  that resulted in a loss of site Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS), Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) and Plant Process Computer (PPC)? 

Imagine Fort Knox being blind to what is happening in their facility for a 2 hour period. What do you think they would suspect might be happening? Now imagine that happening at a nuclear plant that has a reported history of sabotage.

Well you don't have to imagine it, because it happened yesterday at the Brunswick North Carolina nuclear plant. From  the NRC event report # 48019

LOSS OF THE PLANT PROCESS COMPUTER SYSTEM

"At 1757 EDT on 6/12/12, Brunswick Nuclear Plant experienced a fault on the Emergency Response Facility Information System (ERFIS) uninterruptible power supply (UPS) electrical bus 'A'. This resulted in a loss of site Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS), Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) and Plant Process Computer (PPC) for both Unit 1 and Unit 2. The cause of the fault is not yet understood and under investigation. No other major plant effects occurred and no major plant evolutions are planned. 

"During the loss of SPDS, the emergency response capability of that system was lost to the site. During the loss of ERDS, the automatic data transfer feature of that system was lost for transmissions to the NRC, however manual data transfer is still available. During the loss of the PPC, automatic core thermal power averaging and automatic core thermal limit monitoring was lost. Manual calculations are available for these functions. 

"Unit 1 SPDS was restored to the Emergency Operations Facility (EOF) at 1949 EDT. Unit 2 SPDS was restored to the EOF at 2030 EDT. ERDS and PPC remain unavailable with troubleshooting in progress. Both units reduced power to 98% as a conservative measure. 

"The NRC Resident Inspector has been notified."

The NRC has documented serious sabotage at the Brunswick Nuclear plant. They have also explained away some happenings, like not properly bolting down the lid of a nuclear reactor, in a way that can only be described as complete, total, and utter incompetence.

So what are we to make of the recent "event" at Brunswick?  Well, what would they think and how would they respond had this happened at Fort Knox or at a 'deadly force authorized'  nuclear weapons/materials storage facility?

Given its history, our take is that if we lived any where near or downwind of Brunswick nuclear plant, we would be concerned about what was either just stolen at Brunswick or what might have just been set up to happen next.

We would be less concerned about these things if the happenings at Brunswick were investigated from a criminal standpoint (just to be safe) versus the NRC method of relying on incompetence over malice.

Now to put it country plain and simple: The POTRBLOG SWAG is that the tubes weren't the problem, but rather the result. Chemistry is the problem, it is related to the refueling, and that we were lucky that the tubes failed before the fuel did. We'll be even more lucky if it is only limited to San Onofre. Expect electrical futures to climb, when the leaks start pouring out of the NRC.

Serial Saboteur? Emergency Declared At South Carolina Progress Energy Robinson Nuclear Plant

Yet again, another Nuclear emergency tied to a refueling operation at a "Progress Energy" nuclear plant in the Carolinas. This time the declared nuclear emergency was a fire inside of the containment at the Robinson nuclear plant located near Hartsville, South Carolina (see NRC event report 47618).

The 3 key aspects of the situation are:
(1) A history of Sabotage during refueling operations
(2) Utter and Total incompetence Vs the likelihood of deliberate sabotage
For example, not properly bolting down the lid of the nuclear reactor.
(3) The 100% correlation of recent declared emergencies with refueling operations

The situation overwhelmingly points to potential serial saboteur(s) being involved with the refueling operations. The evidence is so overly indicative that the POTRBLOG team believes it would be an act of incompetence (at best) by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to not proceed under the assumption that these occurrences are potentially criminal in nature.

The FBI should rightly be involved in these investigations if for no other reason to help rule out criminal acts. We believe for the NRC not to call in the FBI for assistance brings into the question the NRC's competence as a safety regulator; the peril of which is a successful deliberately induced nuclear meltdown in the United States.

Such a meltdown situation nearly occurred at Progress Energy's Brunswick North Carolina nuclear plant, when two separate but possibly criminally related emergencies almost happened simultaneously. The POTRBLOG teams suspicion is that a Brunswick Nuclear Plant saboteur loosened bolts that seal the nuclear pressure vessel and sabotaged a control room system, a combination which had the potential to result in a Fukushima style disaster.

The disaster was averted because of alert control room operators; a control room which had to be evacuated during the next restart because of another emergency. Our belief is that sabotage had also been conducted against the control room in an attempt to have it evacuated at the very instant the pressure vessel was spewing coolant and hydrogen. Had the loosening of the pressure vessel bolts been better engineered, it is possible the control room might not have caught the issue in time. It was a grace of God moment that the timing of the two emergencies was off just enough to keep them from occurring simultaneously. There is wisdom in relying on the grace of God when doing God's work, but we are not so sure that nuclear for nuclear's sake qualifies in that regard.

Unfortunately the continuing emergencies at Progress Energy Nuclear plants during refueling combined with an apparent lack of a criminal investigation are a strong indication that the potential saboteurs have free reign to hone their skills.

Sabotage? Another Strange Incident at Brunswick Nuclear Plant in North Carolina!

The NRC reported an "CONTROL ROOM AIR CONDITIONING AND CONTROL ROOM EMERGENCY VENTILATION SYSTEMS INOPERABLE" event today, during the startup of Unit 2 at Brunswick nuclear plant. The failure might have been planned as a force multiplier in what the POTRBLOG team suspects was a SABOTAGE attempt to recreate Fukushima at Brunswick during the previous Unit 2 startup attempt on 11/16/11.

Today's event was a "condition that at the time of discovery could have prevented fulfillment of the safety function of systems that are needed to mitigate the consequences of an accident". We question if today's incident had actually been designed to prevent/interfere with the emergency shutdown which occurred during the 11/16/11 startup failure of Unit 2.

Given the history of sabotage aimed at the nuclear core of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant, the POTRBLOG team once again calls for the FBI to lead a criminal investigation into the recent most unusual failures at Brunswick Nuclear.

The POTRBLOG team believes that the previous 11/16/11 Emergency at Progress Energy's Brunswick Nuclear Plant in North Carolina was an attempt to attack the United States by using a March 18th 2011 blue print described by David Lochbaum, the director of the Union of Concerned Scientists’ Nuclear Safety Project, on how the Brunswick North Carolina Nuclear power plant reactor containment seals could fail resulting in a Fukushima hydrogen explosion.

The above information combined with a history of sabotage at the Brunswick Unit 2 nuclear plant during maintenance and refueling outages leads the POTRBLOG team to believe that the improperly sealed Reactor Pressure Vessel was a man-made attempt to recreate a Fukushima style Nuclear Disaster in the United States.

How Many Engineers Does It Take To Screw Down The Lid Of A Nuclear Core? Don't ask the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or Progress Energy that question. Given the recent declared emergency at the Brunswick Nuclear plant in North Carolina, where the pressure cooker top of the nuclear core was screwed in loose enough to allow the NUCLEAR CORE to DIRECTLY spew out hot radioactive materials, the answer obviously is that the NRC and Progress Energy didn't have the ability to answer that question. But don't worry, the NRC and Progress Energy say there is no IMMEDIATE danger.

The public and media seemingly have no concept of the gravity of this utterly dangerous situation. The penalty of failure in the nuclear business is high and long; in fact it is much higher than in aviation where a lesser failure would have resulted in the FAA IMMEDIATELY grounding and inspecting fleets of aircraft with similar maintenance histories. The reality of this situation is that this sort of escaped defect undermines the credibility of the entire Nuclear Power industry and highlights the level of danger the public faces (which is exactly why it is being played down).

We at POTRBLOG believe this incident was an act of sabotage, modeled on a March 18, 2011 Union of Concerned Scientist Analysis showing how the Brunswick plant could be turned into a Fukushima style hydrogen explosion. Our position is supported by a past history of core sabotage at the Brunswick plant. What makes the current situation doubly interesting is that UCS engineer Dave Lochbaum, who authored the analysis on how North Brunswick could go all Fukushima, made this comment about the emergency at North Brunswick: "It's more embarrassing than it is a safety near-miss," That is exactly the kind of comment a law enforcement agency would ask such a person to make in order to strike at the ego of the saboteur, in hopes that saboteur would respond. In fact, it is only scenario in which we can imagine David Loughbaum's comment to make any sense at all. One only hopes that Loughbaum's comment didn't incorrectly reassure the public about the immediate safety of the declared emergency.

The good news is that a saboteur can be tracked down and arrested, IF A PROPER CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION IS CONDUCTED. That bad news is that suspected saboteur likely has access to more than one nuclear plant. The worse news is that if there is no saboteur, and it is solely a matter of nuclear incompetence, eventual that incompetence will screw us all in the end with another home grown Fukushima.

Progress Energy's Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant has a history of sabotage during maintenance and refueling on Unit 2. The NRC had previously reported possible sabotage of neutron monitoring probes during such a refueling outage.

Additionally, the rail lines entering the Brunswick Nuclear Plant have also been a previous target of sabotage. One the same day as the rail line sabotage, a guard at a different Progress Energy Nuclear plant came under gun fire.

Given such a history of sabotage at Brunswick Nuclear and Progress Energy nuclear sites in general, it is unfathomable that the FBI would not have the lead in the NRC investigation of what likely appears to be another case of sabotage during reactor maintenance at Brunswick Nuclear.

The POTRBLOG team predicts that the Federal Bureau of Investigation will and should be on site at the Brunswick North Carolina nuclear plant to collect and protect evidence of possible nuclear sabotage.

There are two fundamentally frightening realities that will come out of the NRC emergency declaration at the Brunswick North Carolina nuclear plant.

(1) The NRC will decide that the potential level of nuclear incompetence shown at the Brunswick Nuclear plan falls within the range of what can be NON-CRIMINALLY expected for a Nuclear Plant operator.

(2) The NRC will find that what happened is OUTSIDE of what could reasonable be expected, hence it is prudent to invite in the FBI to help rule out a case of likely SABOTAGE.


If the NRC follows decides on action #1, there is no choice but to conclude that Nuclear plants are at MUCH greater risk of human induced catastrophic failure than has ever been admitted to, or previously planned for.

The POTRBLOG team believes this event to be one of the most startlingly dangerous and incompetent things we have ever read in an NRC event alert, frankly we would find this event terrifying if we lived any where near or down wind of Brunswick North Carolina (and we ain't a-fear'd of nothin')

On 11/16/11 an Emergency was declared at Brunswick North Carolina Nuclear Plant due to a discovered coolant leak after the reactor went critical during the STARTUP of Unit 2 at the nuclear plant. Today we discover that the reason there was a coolant leak was because "the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) head was not fully tensioned" Event Number: 47452

We take this situation to mean that Brunswick apparently has no effective policies, controls, or procedures to prevent them from improperly reassembling a nuclear pressure vessel, and no methodology for checking for such a failure other than bringing the reactor up to criticality and seeing if any nuclear goodies steam and/or leak-out. Moreover to alleviate the situation they had to manually shut down the reaction, which just so happens to be from a probabilistic stand point one of the danger points in the operation of a reactor.

Functionally we believe this situation to be the equivalent of a methlab operation failing to properly seal a pressure cooker and realizing the mistake just in time to keep the rest of the neighborhood from hearing the large BOOM.

Given what we know from the event reports, one has to question what was released from the plant; but more damningly one has to wonder how an organization can allow such an escaped defect to occur and still be deemed competent to operate a nuclear power plant.

Yesterday, Brunswick North Carolina had a grace of God moment that they didn't have their own Chernobyl / Fukushima. The ONLY SAFE procedure going forward is for Brunswick to STAND DOWN further operations pending a full debrief and corrective action plan.

We believe it would be wise for local residents in the area to take immediate precautions, and based on the evident lapses in operation of the facility to take long term precautions as well.
